|The procession in honour of the Madonna di Porto Salvo, patron saint of fishermen, is celebrated every year in the seaside district of Catanzaro, on the last Sunday of July. Leaving around 3:00 p.m., the Statue of the Madonna is carried from the mother church to the harbour where she is taken aboard a fishing boat followed by the faithful, religious and political authorities and the band. At the head of the procession on sea is the fishing boat with the Statue, priests and band accompanied by fishing vessels and many other vessels filled with faithful. Many other devotees watch from the beach. This time she is transported by boat along the coastlines of Catanzaro Lido and Roccelletta di Borgia throwing a bouquet of flowers overboard. Once the nautical visit to the villages has been completed, the statue of the Madonna di Porto Salvo is carried through the streets of the city on the shoulders of the faithful.
