Archaeological excavation of the area occupied by the city of Taureana testify that the traces of the earliest settlements of the site date back to the bronze age with subsequent developments in the second half of the 4th until the 3rd centuries BC. During this period the site was settled by the first Bruttii village composed of domestic buildings. A recent archaeological research has highlighted a second Roman construction phase dated between the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. The City was equipped with a sacred area characterised by a building set on a quadrangular podium.
