On a hill above the town of Squillace stand the Castle walls and towers whose origins dates back to the 9th century. It was first built by the Byzantines and used as an outpost and then became a Muslim fortress. It was reconstructed by the Normans and during the Bourbon Government became a prison where the philosopher Tommaso Campanella was locked up. The castle today houses a small Museum where archaeological finds and two skeletons are exposed.
